DOVER- George D. Wynegar, 70, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of Mary K. (Sheets) Wynegar. The couple celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on January 26, 2014. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with Pastor Frank Miller, Sr. of the Cornerstone Fellowship Church officiating. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6-8 PM and Wednesday from 9-10 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born June 27, 1944 in York, George was a son of the late Willie and Edna Mae (Hodgson) Wynegar. He worked as a machinist for Johnson Controls, Inc., formerly York International, for 27 years and retired in 2009. Mr. Wynegar served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. George was a member of the Manchester Assembly of God Church, the Shiloh American Legion Post #791 and the West York VFW Post #8951. George loved the Philadelphia Phillies and was an amazing baseball coach. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf. Most importantly, George was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was a true family man and will be missed dearly. In addition to his wife Mary, Mr. Wynegar is survived by three sons, George D. Wynegar, Jr. of Charleston, West Virginia, Scott D. Wynegar and his wife Stephanie of York and David W. Wynegar and his wife Heather of York; 13 grandchildren, Kayla, Andrew, Rick, Chelsea, Alexis, Kyle, Elena, Jordan, Taylor, Devon, Sarah Rose, Brooke and Hailey; a brother, Samuel Wynegar of York; three sisters, Edna Mae Henning of Manchester, Willie Julius and her husband Donald of Dover, and Tillie of Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Along with his parents, Mr. Wynegar was preceded in death by 12 siblings. Memorial contributions may be made to the York County Veterans Affairs, 100 West Market Street, York, PA 17401.
