George C. Bruce

George C. Bruce, 92, of Troy, PA, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Bradford County Manor. He was the loving husband of Vera (Kelly) Bruce. The couple married on July 20, 1940 and had 70 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to call from 11:00AM-12:00 PM on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Gerald W. Vickery Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The funeral service to honor Georges life ill be held at 12:00 noon on January 3rd at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Noggle of the First United Methodist Church of Troy officiating. Burial will follow the funeral in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors given by the Troy Veterans Honor Guard. George was born on September 4, 1918 in Troy, son of the late Roy and Nina (Smith) Bruce. He attended Troy High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. George was always a hard worker. He worked as a supervisor of a crew that iced refrigerated railroad cars, had his own plumbing and heating business, and was a supervisor at GTE Sylvania until he retired. After he retired, George and Vera loved traveling around the country with their camper. He made friends wherever they went and had many good friends back home in Troy. George was a member of the American Legion Post #49 of Troy, PA. George is survived by his wife Vera, his son James L. (Gale) Bruce of Troy, his daughter Sharon (Clyde) Castle of Fassett, PA, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, his brothers: Robert (Mary) Bruce and Donald (Elaine) Bruce, both of Troy, Harry Bruce of Bentley Creek, and Harold Bruce of Rehoboth, DE, along with several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, his son William R. Bruce, his daughter Carla McGonigal, his granddaughter Kristi Isham, and his sister Eloise Gernert. Memorial contributions may be made in Georges memory to the Alzheimer's Association Northeastern Pa Chapter 57 North Franklin Street Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701-1309.
