POTTSVILLE - George "Peach" Bobinis, 78, of Pottsville, went home to the loving arms of Our Lord on Wednesday afternoon in the presence of his devoted wife after a hard fought battle with cancer. Born in Pottsville on February 11, 1931, he was the son of the late Charles and Anna Marks Bobinis. He was a 1949 graduate of Pottsville High School and a 1953 graduate of Penn State University. After graduating from Penn State, he joined the US Army. Peach was formerly a member of Mary Queen of Peace, Pottsville, the Holy Name Society and currently a member of Saint Patrick's, Pottsville. He retired in 2006 as the Clerk of Norwegian Township. For 20 years he served on the Norwegian Township Planning and Zoning commission and also served two terms as a township supervisor. While working for the township, he was known to go out of his way for anyone that needed assistance in township affairs. For many years before working for the township, Peach was in business with his father and brother, known as Charles Bobinis and Sons, Inc. Peach was an avid fan of Pottsville and North Schuylkill sports. He enjoyed attending all his nephews and great nephews and great nieces sporting events. He also enjoyed collecting scale-model equipment and he had quite a collection. He also enjoyed reading books on history and doing crossword puzzles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sanders. In addition to his wife, Martha Jane McGovern Bobinis, he is survived by: two sisters, Ann Hoffman, and Alice Cremia; one brother, Charles Bobinis, Jr., all of Pottsville; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. Peach was well loved and will be sadly missed by nieces and nephews Justine and Chuck Majestic, and Patricia and Mark Semanchik and great nieces and great nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10 AM from the Church of Saint Patrick, 4th & Mahantongo St., Pottsville. The Reverend Msgr. Edward O'Connor will officiate. Family and friends may call at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville Sunday evening from 6-8 PM and Monday morning from 8:30 until 9:30 AM. Interment will be on Queen of the Universe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St. Patrick's Memorial Funed, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901 or the Pinnacle Health Hospice, 301 One Norwegian Plaza, Pottsville, PA 17901.
