Gene L. Dettinger

COURTLAND, VA - Gene L. Dettinger, 62, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at South Side Regional Medical Facility in Petersburg, Virginia. He was the husband of Debra A. (Dull) Dettinger. The couple celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on March 12th. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 546 Pleasant Grove Road in Red Lion. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion and Monday 10-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Gene was born in Red Lion on April 6, 1950, son of the late Wilbur J. and Violet R. (Eichelberger) Dettinger. He loved driving car carrier in York which is how he ended up in Virginia to continue what he loved. Gene was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Red Lion. He enjoyed his boys tremendously; his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and driving his car carrier. Gene leaves a son, Todd Dettinger of Red Lion; three daughters, Tina M. Brown and her husband John, Ameta “Amy” C. Dawson and her fiancé, Terry Mellinger, Jr., and Renee L. Dettinger and her fiancé, Terry Brown, all of Red Lion; 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a brother, Larry Dettinger and his wife LeAnne of Dallastown and a mother-in-law, Geneva Frey of Delroy. He also leaves his three “boys”, Garfield, Taz, and Little Guy. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Ferguson and a brother, Larry Schick.
