Gene L. Baker

York—Gene L. Baker, 82, died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the York Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Drive. He was the husband of Phyllis L. (Latchaw) Baker with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage. A Celebration of Life Service will be private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements. Born August 9, 1931 in Carroll County, Maryland, he was a son of the late Thomas and Katherine (Stiffler) Baker. He retired in 1991 from PA & S Small as a supervisor after 40 years of dedicated employment where he began working as a truck driver. A United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, he was also a life member of the W. York V.F.W and a member of the Teamsters Union Local 430 and 25 year Club at PA & S Small. He enjoyed playing golf with his wife and for several years was a member of Grandview Golf Course. In addition to his wife, Mr. Baker is also survived by one son, Terry L. Baker and wife, Karen of Spring Grove; one daughter, Cathy L. Canterbury and husband, Larry of York; 2 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 11 step great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 4 step great-great grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Baker of Shrewsbury; one sister, Norma Brown of Shrewsbury; nieces and nephews and his dog, Chloe.
