On October 31, 2024 Gene M. “Butch” Kritzberger, 68 shed his earthly pain and made a grand exit to his eternal home.
Gene, the only son, of the late Gene and Bernadine (Voitek) Kritzberger was born March 23, 1956 in Kingston, PA. He resided in New Jersey during his childhood and young adult life. A 1974 graduate of Bridgewater Raritan High School West He continued his education at Trenton State College and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta fraternity. He graduated in 1978 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Electrical Engineering. As an alumnus he served as a mentor to upcoming engineering students.
Upon graduation he began his career at Abex Corp. in Mahwah, NJ. His second job was with Voith in Allendale, NJ. A job transfer with Voith, in 1988, brought him to York County PA. He continued to work throughout his illness and would have celebrated 45 years with Voith in January
On June 16, 1979 Gene married his college sweetheart, Joyce, and recently celebrated 45 years of marriage. They resided in Hewitt, NJ until their move to Dover, PA. Gene is survived by his two children, Lauren and Gene Ill. Two grandchildren, Bailey and Greyson and a second grandson due in January. Also surviving Gene are his four sisters, Linda, Marion, Karen, Eileen and their families.
Gene's father came from a family of 19 children. To list all the aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives who survive him would be an impossible task. He was very devoted to and loved his extended family. He purchased and preserved the family cabin that was built in 1929 by his grandfather. The cabin holds dear memories and Gene loved sharing it with family and hosting the annual family reunion. The cabin was definitely Gene's happy place.
He was the keeper of facts and details that many would forget. He could even tell you how much the carpeting cost in his parent's home in the 1960's! He was a plethora of knowledge from past life events and bits of information.
A favorite pass time of Genes was working on his classic Ford Mustangs and any type of Ford or Mercury vehicle. He had a variety of antique vehicles including his 1931 Model A, and his 1970 Torino convertible.
Through his job he was able to travel worldwide and find the best restaurants and sights to see. A good German restaurant was always a priority. He chronicled his food adventures through pictures on social media. His favorite meals were fried pork chops, made from a recipe passed down from his grandmother, and classic roast beef with mashed potatoes.
Before, and during his illness, he enjoyed watching reruns of 1960's TV shows. Leave it to Beaver, Green Acres, Lost in Space were among his favorites. At the cabin he would always tune in to the Pennsylvania Polka and Lawrence Welk.
He was recently acknowledged as being his high school class ambassador. It brought him joy to be able to connect with friends from days gone by and bring everyone together. His illness prevented him from attending his recent 50-year high school reunion. He was, however, an integral part of planning this event.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc.
