Gary M. Miller

YORK—Gary M. Miller, 80, passed away Thursday January 6, 2022 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Jo Ann (Johnson) Miller to whom he was married for 57 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements. Born June 16, 1941 in Altoona, he was a son of the late Mervin and Margaret (Benton) Miller. He earned both his B.S. and M.ED. from Penn State University. He was a teacher and head of the mathematics department at Spring Grove High School where he was employed for 35 years, until his retirement in 1998. Mr. Miller also coached men’s basketball for several years at Gettysburg College, Elizabethtown College and Spring Grove High School. He was awarded the YCIAA Basketball Coach of the Year two consecutive years. Mr. Miller was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in York. He was also an avid model train enthusiast, a member of the Hanover Elks and a dedicated Baltimore Orioles and Penn State Football fan. He and his wife were world travelers and set sail on 38 cruises together. In addition to his wife, Mr. Miller is also survived by two daughters, Tracy L. Miller and husband, Sean O’Brien of Virginia and Michelle M. Finch and husband, Jack Lassack of York; three grandchildren, Bryce J. Finch, Brayden J. Finch and Justin C. Lassack; one sister, Sharon Coy and husband Byron of Downingtown, several nieces and nephews, his caregiver Heidi Moffitt and their two dachshunds Snitzel and Gretzel.
