SPRING GROVE - Gary E. Tarbert, 75, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Cross Keys Village - Brethren Home Community. Gary was the husband of Dawn (Fuhrman) Tarbert. The couple was wed on February 7, 1970. Services will be private at the convenience of the family held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road York is in charge of arrangements. Born in Cardiff, MD on November 15, 1945, Mr. Tarbert was the son of the late Wilson and Isabel (Hughes) Tarbert. Gary served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War as part of the First Infantry Division (The “Big Red One”). He was granted two purple hearts and various other honors. Mr. Tarbert worked in finance for many years at the Dauphin Deposit Bank in York and was the proud owner and operator of Tarbert’s Airport Transportation. He retired in 2006. He and his wife attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church. In his spare time Gary enjoyed camping with friends, model trains, and vacationing at Rehoboth Beach with family. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Dawn; two sons, Jacob W. Tarbert of Wilmington, DE, Wilson M. Tarbert and his wife, Elizabeth of Ithaca, NY; three grandchildren; and sister Mary Boyer of Red Lion. Gary was preceded in death by four brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Gary’s honor to the Good Samaritan Fund that cares for disadvantaged seniors at Cross Keys Village.
