Gary D. Martz

DOVER- Gary D. Martz, 52, died unexpectedly at his home in the early hours of Monday morning, May 19, 2008. He was the husband of Holly Martz, whom he was married to for 12 years following a long and committed relationship. Gary was born in Allentown, PA on May 2, 1956 and is the son of Joanna Martz and the late Dennis Martz. Gary was an attorney who practiced law in York County, beginning in 1981, after graduating from Dickinson School of Law. At the time of his death Gary was a partner in the firm of Martz & Gailey LLP. He was a skilled trial attorney who thoroughly enjoyed his work and had a stellar reputation, especially in the practice of workers' compensation. He was devoted to his practice and his clients, many of whom he considered friends. He was also active for many years in the Dover Area Soccer Association, as a coach his daughter's team, the Ladybugs, whose players and families remained a large part of his life and near to his heart. Gary was a devoted father to his daughter Alaina and a loving, caring husband to his wife, Holly. He enjoyed music, tennis, billiards, and animals, rescuing many stray dogs and cats who shared his home over the years. Gary was known for his tireless work effort, his boundless energy, enthusiasm and love of life. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family. In addition to his wife and daughter, Gary is survived by his mother, Joanna Martz of Allentown, an uncle and several aunts and cousins in the Allentown area, in-laws and nieces and nephews in the Dover area, as well as many friends. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 23 at the Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. from 6 - 8 pm. A brief visitation will take place from 10 - 11 am on Saturday May 24, following by a celebration of life service at 11:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you honor Gary's devotion to animals by making a contribution of the York SPCA or a charity of your choice.
