Gary L. Campbell, of West York, passed away at 2:15 AM Monday, October 14, 2024 at York Hospital. He was 75.
A visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday, October, 18, 2024 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. A private, family Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
Gary was born in York on September 22, 1949. He was the son of Betty L. (Miller) Campbell of West York and the late David C. “Red” Campbell.
He was a Phlebotomist at York Hospital retiring in 2012 after 45 years of service. He was in charge of opening the first York Hospital Lab Annex on Springettsbury Avenue and later supervised the Annexes at both Queensgate and Westagate. He had also been an in-home Phlebotomist with the hospital’s Trans-Lab unit as well as a Lab Carrier. Gary had been an Adult Education instructor for many years with the night-school program at York County School of Technology, but will be most remembered for his many community volunteer activities, for which he received the Jefferson Award. Gary served on the Board of Directors for the White Rose Senior Center, the Shadowfax Corporation, was on the Advisory Board for the York County Area Agency on Aging and delivered Meals-on-Wheels. He was one of the founders of the York Prime of Life Festival for Seniors and had been active with both Junior Achievement and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Gary had attended York College and was of the Lutheran Faith.
In addition to his mother, Betty L. Campbell, Gary is survived by his brother, David E. Campbell (Beth); his three sisters, Roxanne E. Crone (Lou), Kathy O. Swartz (Mike) and Donna R. Wise (Chris); numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.
