EASTON, MD – Frederick W. Stauffer, 93, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Talbot Hospice, Easton. He was the husband of Dorothy E. (Drown) Stauffer to whom he was married for 35 years and the late Letha (Chubb) Stauffer, whom he was married to for twenty-two years. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Shiloh UCC Cemetery with full military honors presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born October 7, 1922 in Red Lion, a son of the late Willis W. and Grace B. (Mohney) Stauffer, he began his teaching career at Kennard Dale High School in 1952 and retired from Eastern York High School in 1980 after 28 years of teaching. Fred was a member of NEA;PSEA; Trinity Lutheran Church in Wrightsville; VFW Post 5118, American Legion Post 297, and Elks Lodge 1622 all in MD; The 5th Marine Division Assoc. Iwo-Jima Japan and Marine Corps League 689 in DE. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of WWII where he was assigned to the tank battalion. The 5th Div. Marines took part in the invasion of Iwo Jima. Mr. Stauffer developed a love of sailing and he and his wife, Dottie, had many high seas adventures on their sailboat. They sailed to the Virgin Islands twice and spent their summers on their boat in Martha’s Vineyard. He was a member of The Fleet Reserves Club of Annapolis, Sailing Club of the Chesapeake, Alberg 30 Assoc. and was a US Coast Guard licensed Charter Captain. In addition to his wife, Mr. Stauffer is survived by a son, Willis F. Stauffer of Colorado; two daughters, Karen and husband Budd Heim of Ocean Pines, MD and Deborah and husband Gene Cravotta of Warren, OH; two stepsons, Donald Elliott of Florida and Douglas and wife Yanna Elliott of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Angela and husband Matthew Manos, Douglas G. Heim, Nicole Baumgartner, and Ryan and wife Abby Cravotta; two great -grandchildren, Gabriel Baumgartner and Ruby Manos; and a step -grandson, Todd Elliott. He was preceded in death by one brother and seven sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Talbot House Hospice, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.
