There will be a visitation prior from 9:30-10:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Rose Cemetery with Full Military Honors performed by York County Veterans Honor Guard.

Born October 12, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, Fred was the son of the late Frederick C. Bahr, Sr. and Dorothea C. (Kerstowke) Bahr. He wrote once that he was born before most of the modern conveniences of today like refrigerators, televisions, calculators, computers, microwaves and video games; nevertheless, his generation had plenty to do to include watching movies in air-conditioned theaters, going to the beach (Lake Michigan), riding bicycles, playing baseball, listening to stories on the radio and using their imaginations!

He was 10 years old when the US entered World War II and he remembered rationing gasoline, meat and butter as well as a shortage of toilet paper! In high school, he joined the ROTC where he learned how to march, close order drill, and how to shoot a gun. After graduation, he became a Boy Scout Leader and worked for a carpet company until he was drafted into the army during the Korean war in 1952. He served for two years repairing and testing guided missiles. After getting discharged, he utilized the GI bill and attended the University of Illinois getting a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Afterwards,

Fred was hired by York Borg-Warner, which is now known as Johnson Controls and worked as a mechanical engineer for over 40 years.

Outside of his work life, Fred was in a bowling league for many years, which is where he got to know Jackie, who later became his wife. Fred was also an active member at St. John Lutheran Church since 1975, serving in many capacities over the years.

In addition, he was a member, then leader, of the Oberbayern Bavarian Folk Dance Group for over 25 years. He loved exploring his German heritage through wearing authentic German Tracht, teaching and performing traditional German folk dances as well as drinking many kinds of beer! Also, he took great pride in taking care of his own home repairs as well as working outside in the yard and on his lawn. He loved to read, play board games and tell stories about his life.

In addition to his wife, Jacqueline, Fred is survived by his sister, Lois Bahr; three children, Janet Ciccocioppo and husband Martin, Sally (Janelle) Cizauskas and husband George, and Frederick (Rick) Bahr III and wife Jessica; ten grandchildren, Amanda, Lauren, Emily, Elizabeth, Cory, Jillian, Carolyn, Jessica, Ryan and Joshua; nine great-grandchildren, Tristan, Charlotte, Graham, Harper, Phoenix, Louisa, Rebekah, Vivian, and baby McGrain. He is preceded in death by a brother, Richard Bahr and a baby daughter, Susan Bahr.
