CANTON-Franklin P. Holmes, 90, of Canton, PA, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Bradford County Manor. He was the loving husband of Mary E. (Morris) Holmes who passed away on October 6, 2005. Family and friends are welcome to call from 12:00-1:00 PM on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. A memorial service to honor Frank's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 8th at the funeral home with Rev. Jasper Smith, retired United Methodist minister, officiating. Military rites will be given by the Canton Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will follow the services in Park Cemetery, Canton. Franklin was born on June 4, 1917 in Leolyn, Tioga County, PA. He was the son of the late Norvin C. and Kathleen (Crawford) Holmes. Frank was a 1935 graduate of Canton High School and attended business school in Pittsburgh, PA. Frank was a US Army veteran during World War II, he served in the Medical Corps and was captured and became a P.O.W. during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, Frank became owner operator of Holmes Lumber Company in Canton along with his brothers. He was a charter member of the Wheel Inn, was a member of both Canton Lodge # 415 and Scottish Rite, and was a member of the Eagles Mere Country Club and Canton VFW Post 714. He was a member of the Canton Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for his outstanding service. Frank attended the First Presbyterian Church of Troy with his wife Mary. Franklin is survived by his sister Ella Jane Frey of Palm Bay, FL, his nieces and nephews: Janice (Michael) Dieffenbach of Canton, PA, Rodman C. Holmes and companion Carol Hurd of Hope Sound, FL, Norvin (Donna) Holmes of Canton, Kathleen (Garry) Baumunk of Canton, PA, and Dr. Crawford Holmes, DVM of Canton, his brothers-in-law: G. Richard Morris and W. Thomas (Dixie) Morris, both of Troy, PA. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, his stepson Robert G. Childs, Jr., his brothers: Norvin, Rodman, Crawford, Kenneth, and Edwin Holmes, and his nephew Robert Holmes.
