Red Lion — Frank N. Shaffer, 63, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in Jefferson County. He was the husband of Sandra H. (Heim) Shaffer with whom he celebrated 39 years of marriage on August 1st. A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, November 30, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles Street, Red Lion, with his pastor, the Rev. Anne-Rose Reeves officiating. Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, and from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, at the church. Burial will be held in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born April 13, 1946 in Sharon, Pa, he was a son of Grace Muzette (Ray) Dunaway of Savage, MD and the late Attorney Fred N. Shaffer Jr, and served in the United States Marine Corps, during the Vietnam War, from 1965 to 1969. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Duquesne University, as well as an Executive Education from Wharton School-University of Pennsylvania, ABA Graduate School of Banking Diploma from the University of Wisconsin and ABA Graduate School of Commercial Lending Diploma from the University of Oklahoma. His career and business experience includes real estate appraising, inspections, financing, leasing, consulting, appraisal review and property management. He also taught real estate finance at Indiana University of PA, School of Continuing Education. Previously he worked in commercial banking as a loan officer and regional Vice President for a major Maryland bank. His expertise was in residential and commercial appraising and inspections, serving customers throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland. A member of the appraisal institute of central PA, he was also a member of the York County PA association of Realtors, multi-list services York County association of Realtors, National association of Home Inspectors, AOPA, and Housing Inspection Foundation. He was licensed by Maryland and Pennsylvania as a general real estate appraiser, in PA as a real estate broker, certified mold inspector and held a private pilot license rating. His civic and social organizations and professional achievements include, member of Grace Lutheran Church in Red Lion, President of Red Lion Rotary Club-1999-2000, Past President Kiwanis Club-Indiana PA, Lieutenant Governor Elect Pa Kiwanis Clubs, Past Board President-Indiana County Guidance Center, Past Board member of Small Business Incubator for both Indiana University of PA and Butler Memorial Hospital, Chairman United Way campaign Union National Bank, Pittsburg, PA, Court appointed board member Youth Aid Panel-York County, Past St. James Lutheran Church Council, past member of Red Lion Redevelopment Authority, member of Red Lion Business Association, Certified Agent in the Commonwealth of PA as a Private Investigator, a member of the Free and Accepted Masons-Red Lion Lodge No. 649 and Butler Lodge No. 272, through Grace Lutheran Church he was a part of Caitlin's Smiles, was a partner with his son at AAA Paving and Excavating and a member of Bee Keeper's association. In addition to his wife, Mr. Shaffer is also survived by four sons, Frank N. "Neil" Shaffer II and his wife Lynn of Red Lion, Brian K. Shaffer and his wife Bobbi Jo of Windsor, Kevin C. Shaffer and his wife Kendra of Felton and Shawn A. Shaffer, of Red Lion, ten grandchildren, Anita, Olivia, Luke, Jo Hanna, Kelsey, Madison, Ethen, Hailey, Mason and Matthew, two brothers, Fred N. Shaffer III, of Warren, OH, and George Allen Shaffer of Denton, TX, two sisters, Norma Shaffer of Bethesda, MD, and Gigi Shaffer Hebert of Laurel, MD, half brother, Steven Dunaway of Savage, MD, and numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles Street, Red Lion, Pa 17356.
