YORK – Francis P. Sneeringer, 81, passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at Misericordia Nursing Home. He was the husband of Martha M. (McCleaf) Sneeringer to whom he was married for 59 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Rd., York. A viewing will be held from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born November 13, 1930 in Mt. Pleasant, Adams Co., a son of the late Clarence J. and Elizabeth H. (Hufnagle) Sneeringer, he was a 1948 graduate of Delone Catholic High School and had attended Penn State York. Mr. Sneeringer began his career at the York Naval Ordnance Depot and continued on with its successors, AMF and Harley Davidson, Inc. He then retired from Bowen McLaughlin - York. Mr. Sneeringer was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he volunteered for many years cleaning the Church, was a 4th Degree Knight with Knights of Columbus, a member of Catholic War Veterans Post 1342 and Shiloh American Legion. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and sportsman who particularly enjoyed gardening and farming. Mr. Sneeringer was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sneeringer is survived by a son, John J. and wife Heather Sneeringer of Dover; two daughters, Connie K. and husband Raymond Landis of Cashtown and Mary D. and husband Shawn Yohe of York; four grandchildren, Justine and Ryan Landis and Ashley and Lauren Yohe; two brothers, Bernard Sneeringer of Bonneauville, Adams Co. and Benjamin Sneeringer of Littlestown; four sisters, Rita Walter of Brushtown, Adams Co., Anna Miller of Baltimore, MD, Sister Delores Sneeringer of York, and Justina Meckley of Hanover. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney Sneeringer; and two sisters, Loretta Orndorff and an infant, Catharine Theresa Sneeringer.
