LOCK HAVEN - .Francis D. Van Kirk, 87, died Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Susque-View Home. He was born May 15, 1929 in Milton a son of the late Tamenund and Ruth (Snyder) Van Kirk. Francis was married 64 years to the former Arland E. “Artie” Bottorf. She preceded him in death October 27, 2015. He was a 1947 graduate of Lock Haven High School. He worked for Sears & Roebuck and Champion Parts Rebuilders in Lock Haven and later after retirement he was an attendant for the Helt Funeral Chapel, Mill Hall. He served in the Marines during the Korean War and during that time participated in the Atomic Testing Program in Los Alamos, NM. Francis was a member of the Marine Corp League, Renovo. He was a former trainer for the 55 Alive Class and was a 50+ year member and past president of the Patriotic Order Sons of America in Woodward, PA. He was an active volunteer and organizer for the “Toys for Tots” in Clinton County. One of his greatest passions was creating his garden and flower beds He is survived by a son Jeffrey R. Van Kirk of New London, CT and a daughter Kathie M. (Paul) Conklin of Lock Haven. Five grandchildren, Bryan (Deena) Conklin, Jon (Becky) Conklin, Elisa, Emily and Daniel Van Kirk also five great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers William Van Kirk of Lock Haven, Robert Van Kirk of Arcata, CA and Dale (Nancy) Van Kirk of Olympia, WA A sister Gladys Van Kirk preceded him in death. A graveside service will be held in May at Cedar Hill Cemetery and will be announced. Memorial contributions can be made to the Marine Corp. League though the funeral chapel. Helt Funeral Chapel, Mill Hall has charge of arrangements.
