Frances R. (Rawhouser) Faulkner, 78, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2007, at her daughter's home in Durham, North Carolina. Ms. Faulkner was born August 26, 1928, in York. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Florence E. (Ness) Rawhouser. She was a retired schoolteacher having taught special education in Jackson, NJ, and Worcester, MA. She attended bible study at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and enjoyed participating in a monthly luncheon group with her former classmates from William Penn Senior High School. A graduate of Hood College with a degree in Spanish, Ms. Faulkner also received Masters Degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in Occupational Therapy and Newark State in Special Education. She worked as a CIA file clerk in Panama as well as an Occupational Therapist in Philadelphia before raising a family and beginning her teaching career. Ms. Faulkner enjoyed doing the New York Times crossword puzzle and did so each Sunday for the past 60 years. A fun friend and avid gardener, she will be missed by many people and squirrels alike. Ms. Faulkner leaves behind a son, Jeff Faulkner of Durham; two daughters, Suzanne R. Faulkner and partner Nikos Chremos; and Valerie Ness Faulkner and partner Jenn Smith, all of Durham; and an honorary granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Santiago. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert N. Rawhouser and is also survived by his family of York and Allentown, PA. A gathering of family and friends sharing memories and light refreshments will be from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2007 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 West Market St., York, PA 17404 A brief service to celebrate Ms. Faulkner's life will begin at 3:00 p.m. led by the Rev. Diane G. Wenthe. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to WRTI, 1509 Cecil B. Moore Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19121. Fran was a regular listener of Bob Perkins' Sunday Jazz show (BP with the GM). Please note: Jazz-Bob Perkins in memo section of contribution, or plant a pawpaw tree in her honor.
