Frances Marjory Seeley

F. Marjory Seeley, 94, longtime resident of the Hudson Valley, passed into eternal life on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Manor Care, Kingston, PA. She was born September 27, 1914 in Jhansi, UP, India, while her father was serving in the British Army. She was the daughter of the late William Ernest and Frances Mary (Carter) Senior. The family lived in England for a short time before coming to America in 1927, settling first in Walden, NY. After attending schools on three continents, Marjory graduated from Beacon High School in 1935, an accomplishment that she attributed to sheer persistence. She later married Walter Seeley in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Beacon, New York. Walter died in 1984. She was the director of the Newburgh Day Nursery for more than 20 years, retiring in 1979. She previously was the manager of the Fanny Farmer Candy Store in Middletown, New York. She lived independently until the age of 92 at Kingston Manor Senior Apartments, Kingston, PA. She belonged to the tenants social club, serving as secretary for many years. She was also a member of the Kingston Senior Center Community Chorus. Marjory was a prolific letter writer, staying in touch with family and friends for decades. She wrote her first diary, complete with pencil drawings, at the age of 12, when she chronicled her trip to America on RMS Berengaria. She also talked about sailing through the Suez Canal during her voyages between India and England. She looked forward to her summer vacations when she would travel around the United States and Canada, taking pictures that she could enjoy until her next trip. She was thankful that her eyesight remained unchanged, which enabled her to read and do the daily crossword puzzle as well as keep up with current events. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by: her brother, Ernie Senior and his son, Bill. Surviving are: a son, William Seeley and his wife, Roberta, Dallas, Oregon; a daughter, Marian and her husband, Frank Day, Sr., Pocono Pines, PA. Also, 3 grandchildren, Jeffery Seeley, Salem, Oregon; Frank Day and his sister Karen, Allentown, PA; good friend, Sheila Ferris; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A cradle Episcopalian, Marjory's deep faith and participation in her church brought her comfort throughout her life. A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 12:30 p.m., at Grace Episcopal Church, 30 Butler Street, Kingston, PA, with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor, NY. In keeping with Marjory's lifelong love of reading and the importance of maintaining public libraries as a valuable community resource, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Clymer Library, HC 89 Box 39B, Pocono Pines, PA 18350. Arrangements are by Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701. Send condolences at www.BestLifeTributes.com.
