Frances (Lawrence) Gurnavage

Frances (Lawrence) Gurnavage, 90, passed into eternal life with Jesus on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at York Hospital.


A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 10:00 at St Joseph Catholic Church, 251 E. Main St, Dallastown with Father Mark Weiss officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Mount Rose Cemetery immediately following. The funeral mass will also be webcast at HeffnerCare.com by searching Frances’ obituary.


Born on January 21, 1932, in Athens, Pa, Frances grew up in nearby Pleasantville. She was the daughter of the late Mary (MacDonald) Lawrence.


Frances was a Physical Therapist at York Hospital, Memorial Hospital and also with the VNA for 40 years until retirement. She was a member of St Joseph’s for 26 years, and became a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Cocoa, FL for the past 28 years where she also volunteered at the church thrift store.


In her spare time, she enjoyed square dancing, puzzle and word games, watching game shows and she never met a dessert she didn’t like. She often talked about the love she had for her children, and spending time with her family is what she loved to do best.


Frances is survived by her seven children: Mary Gurnavage and her spouse, Joan Goss of York, Martha Gleeson and her husband, Edward of Red Lion, Melanie Gurnavage of Port St. John, FL, Michelle Soutzenberger of Red Lion, Walter “Frank” Gurnavage and his wife Rachel of York, Mark Gurnavage and his wife Angie of York and Andrea Murazzi and her husband, Michael of Hollywood, FL. Deke Gurnavage and his wife Tina of Reading and Brian Stoutzenberger of Marietta are also loving family members. In addition, Frances was proud of each one of her wonderful 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Lawrence, sister Elizabeth Carmichael and her favorite uncle, Walter MacDonald.
