Florence May (Bortner) Miller

YORK- Florence May (Bortner) Miller, 82, died Tuesday, April 08, 2014 at the York Lutheran Home. She was the wife of the late William D. Miller, who died on June 4, 2008. The couple had been married for 54 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with Elder Douglas M. Miller officiating. A visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born on July 31, 1931 in Freeland, MD, she was a daughter of the late Stewart M. and Catherine M. (Mann) Bortner. Florence was a homemaker and worked part time as a banquet server at The Yorktowne Hotel, Utz Potato Chips and the Bon Ton over the years. Mrs. Miller was a member of the West York Church of the Brethren. She also was a member of Lancaster Liederkranz and Polkateers, the White Rose Polka Dancers and volunteered at Pleasant Acres. Florence enjoyed shopping, bowling, camping and traveling, especially to the beach. Mrs. Miller is survived by a daughter, Kathie E. Straubel and her husband, Martin of York; three sons, David W. Miller of York, Keith E. “Zeke” Miller and his wife, Kathleen S. of Dover Twp. and Danny L. Miller of York; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one sister, Judy A. Rohrbaugh. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Ida Bortner; two brothers, Maynard W. Bortner and Roger Bortner; and two sisters, Janet L. Spangler and Marie Brown.
