YORK - Florence I. (Heindel) Spangler, 87, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Wayne E. Spangler. The couple would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on January 1, 2015. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, 408 W. Market Street, York, with The Reverend Judy McKee officiating. Viewings will be held from 7-9 PM on Monday, December 29 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York and from 10-11 AM on Tuesday, prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Born October 8, 1927 in York, Florence was a daughter of the late Lecester and Grace (Stambaugh) Heindel. She worked as an administrator for many years with her last employer being the Holiday Inn, until her retirement in 1989. Mrs. Spangler was well known for her pie recipes and has been published in the Traveler’s Protection Agency cookbook in 35 states. Florence was a loving mother who always put her family first. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Spangler is survived by three sons, Wayne E. Spangler, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Alexandria, VA, Ed Spangler and his wife Glenda of Chicago, IL, and Kevin Spangler and his wife Sharon of Bunker Hill, WV; two grandchildren, Gregory Spangler and Julianna Spangler; a sister, Edna Dellinger and her husband Paul of Hallam; a sister-in-law, Edith G. (Ruh) Heindel, the wife of the late Albert L. Heindel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Florence was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert L. Heindel and Lecester Heindel and his wife Beverly. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
