DOVER- Florence Fischer Burke, age 92, passed away peacefully to her heavenly home surrounded by family on Saturday, October 22, 2016. She was the devoted wife of the late William James Burke, Sr. They enjoyed a loving marriage of 54 years. She was the daughter of the late Ernest W. and Nannie Folkens Fischer. Florence graduated from the Peters Township High School in 1940 and later graduated as a registered nurse from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Florence was very involved in her community and church. Her talents included traveling, singing, baking (especially her pizzelles), knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Her devoted heart delighted in the family activities, vacations, and school programs of her grand and great grand-children. She has always been surrounded by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and sisters-in-law. She was doubly blessed with two treasured sisters-in-law; Margaret V. Burke and Ruth Ann Burke of McMurray, PA. They were all three truly sisters supporting each other in times of sickness and health. She cherished her time with them. William and Florence were the proud parents of the late William J. Burke, Jr. (Judy) of Ashland, OH; Margaret B. Tilton (Denny) of Dover; the late Jon R. Burke of Darlington, MD; and Nancy B. Newman (Doug) of Gettysburg, PA. They were blessed with six loving grandchildren: Carol Burke-Fordham (the late Michael), Erin B. Yurick (Eric), Megan E. Ketterman (Jeffrey), William J. Burke, III (Kali), Angela Workman, and Christopher Newman. They also enjoyed the adoration of ten great-grandchildren: Bryn, Elisabeth, Brooke, Caroline, Cheyenne, Hannah, Brandt, Samuel, Jack and Christian. She was predeceased by five brothers: Donald, George, Ernest, Robert, and Lawrence. A Celebration of Life will be held at Center Presbyterian Church, McMurray, PA, on October 29, 2016 at 4 PM, with a small reception following immediately after the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery Association, 255 Center Church Rd., McMurray, PA 15317. The family wishes to express their deepest thanks for the kindness, love and support for Florence during these past difficult years.
