Flim D Smith

YORK- Flim D. Smith, 78, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth E. (Mummert) Smith to whom he was married over 59 years. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, with the Reverend David McKenzie officiating. A public viewing will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery in Abbottstown. Born June 10, 1938 in Church Hill, TN, Flim was a son of the late James Harvey and Rasa (Penley) Smith. He worked as a truck driver for many years and was employed at Evergreen Tire Co., Miller’s Motor Freight, Inc., Mason Dixon, Preston Truck Caps, and Red Star from which he retired in 2005. After his retirement, Flim decided to go back to work, full time with traveling, at Flagger Force. Aside from work, Flim enjoyed swimming, fishing and working in the outdoors. Along with his wife, Ruth, Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, Timothy Smith and his wife Tammy, and Todd Smith; a grandson, Aaron Smith; a great grandson, Isaiah Smith; a brother, Dwight Smith; three sisters, Mary Sharp, Etta Blanch Winegar, and Patricia Holloran, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Flim was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Smith, and five brothers, James, Charles, Dewey, Huey and Harvey Smith. In memory of Flim’s generous nature, the family request that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his name to a charity of your choice.
