FELTON - Fern E. (Eveler) Shanbarger, 91 of Chanceford Township, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Barbara J. Egan Nursing Center in Shrewsbury. She was the wife of John E. Shanbarger, Sr. The couple celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on June 13, 2014. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, with a viewing from 12:30-2 p.m. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Brogue. Mrs. Shanbarger was born in Brogueville on November 7, 1923, the daughter of the late Emanuel and Elizabeth B. (Heininger) Eveler. Mrs. Shanbarger attended St. James one-room school house; was one of the original members of Red Lion and Brogue Ambulance Club Ladies Auxiliary, and was a member of New Bridgeville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was a homemaker, enjoyed quilting, canning, gardening, and was known for her coconut cream pies. She worked as a Rosie Riveter during WWII. Mrs. Shanbarger leaves two sons, John E. Shanbarger, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Felton and Michael H. Shanbarger and his wife Debra of Felton; two daughters, Darlene I. Thompson and her husband Richard of Felton and Mary E. Grim and her husband Steven of Felton; 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; two step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She is survived by a nephew, Francis Flaharty of Felton and was preceded in death by a niece, Daisy Rexroth, both raised by Fern’s parents. She was preceded in death by two sons, Paul and baby Shanbarger and nine brothers and sisters: Rebecca Swartz, Clarence Eveler, George Eveler, Alverta Trout, Pauline Eveler, Clark Eveler, Luther Eveler, Lena Eveler, and Morris Eveler. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, New Bridgeville Fire Company, Brogue Ambulance Club, or Lutheran Social Services Hospice.
