YORK – Faye D. (Cooper) Keasey, 92, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community. She was the wife of the late Preston L. Keasey, her loving husband of 66 years, who passed away on June 17, 2006. All services are private and being handled by Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Mrs. Keasey was born August 4, 1920 in York, PA. She was the daughter of the late Maude C. (Bingaman) Cooper. She was a member of the William Penn Sr. High School, Class of 1937. During WWII she worked at the National Fireworks plant in Elkton, MD, where she loaded 20MM shells with powder. She also worked on the bombing range at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, in Aberdeen, MD. After the war, the family returned to York, where she worked for the former Black’s Hosiery. After a few years, she took a job as a mechanical inspector at the former Naval Ordinance Plant, later moving on to a similar position at the former York Plant of Bendix Corp. Faye later worked as a hostess at the Howard Johnson’s restaurant on Arsenal Road. She retired as an inspector at Swiss Automatics Co. in York in 1984. Faye was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in York, where she served on the Session as a Ruling Elder and sang for the choir for many years. She also (along with her husband, Preston, and other parents) founded the former Young Handicapped Peoples Club, Inc. The YHPC served as a social outlet for persons having any variety of disabilities. She served one year as President and served on its board of directors and committees. She was also a founding member of the Devers Lions Club Auxiliary where she served a term as President. Upon moving to East Berlin, she became a member of the East Berlin Lioness Club, where she also served a term as President. Faye also served as a Den Mother for Cub Pack #91, sponsored by Faith UCC Church, in York. She also helped to conduct fund-raisers for the York County Chapter of the Easter Seal Society. Mrs. Keasey was one of many parents who provided transportation to children who attended Overbrook School for the Blind in Philadelphia, PA. She also held memberships in the auxiliary of VFW Post #8896, East Berlin, PA, and the former auxiliary to the York County Blind Center. She resided in places such as: Lake Meade, East Berlin, Aberdeen (MD), Halifax (PA), Harrisburg, and York. Mrs. Keasey is survived by a daughter Nancy A. Keasey, who is a resident of the Margaret E. Maul Home in York; James P. Keasey and his wife, June, formally of York, now residing in Okatie, SC; and Thomas C. Keasey and his wife, Sandra, of York, PA; grandchildren: Terri L. Sload and her husband, LTC. (Ret.) Peter of Leesburg, VA; and Spencer T. Keasey of Provincetown, MA; and great-grandchildren: Zachery and Gage Sload of Leesburg, VA. In addition to her mother and husband, Faye was preceded in death by a son, Noel L. Keasey, who passed away in 1942, and also five brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the Margaret E. Moul Home, 2050 Barley Rd., York, PA 17408.
