F. Joseph J. Kelly

LANCASTER - F. Joseph J. Kelly, 84, of Lancaster, formerly of Pottsville, died Thursday morning at the home of his son in Lancaster. Joseph was born in Pottsville on November 27, 1924, a son of the late Patrick and Sophia Gottschall Kelly. He was a 1943 graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School. On October 17, 1945 he married the former Helen M. Vogelgesang, who survives. While the majority of his working career was spent as a machinist, he was employed by Saint Patrick's Church, Pottsville for thirteen years until his retirement. He was a member of the Church of Saint Patrick, the Holy Name Society and a past president of the Diocese of Allentown Holy Name Society. Joseph was also a past president of the West Schuylkill Regional Holy Name Society, a first assistant vice president of the Pennsylvania State Association of the Holy Name Society. He held the offices of secretary, third vice president and second vice president of the National Association of Holy Name Societies. He was also a Eucharistic Minister for Saint Patrick's Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: two brothers, Henry Ryan, and James Kelly, and a sister, Mary Costas. In addition to his wife Helen, of 63 years, he is survived by: two sons, Michael J. and his wife Patricia Kelly, of Landenberg and Terrence J. and his wife Debbie Kelly, of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Beverly Cramer and Tara Bunteman, both of Lancaster, and Brian Kelly, of Philadelphia; three great grandchildren, Thomas Stanton, Terrence J. Palkowitz and Matthew Bunteman; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 1:00 PM from the Chruch of Saint Patrick, 4th & Mahantongo St., Pottsville. The Reverend Msgr. Edward O'Connor will officiate. Family and friends may call from the church on Monday from noon until time of mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Hillside Road, Pottsville. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either: Saint Patrick's Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901 or the Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
