Evelyn Mae (Wascher) Smith

YORK- Evelyn M. (Wascher) Smith, 81, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Pleasant Acres. She was the loving wife of John P. Smith, to whom she was married to for 63 years. Arrangements are private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Smith was born March 6, 1928 in York, a daughter of the late William Wascher and Mary Runkle. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Jacobs Lutheran Church. Evelyn was a member of the York Doll Club where she restored old dolls for the doll hospital in East Berlin. She enjoyed bowling and over the years bowled two perfect games. Evelyn volunteered many of places including York Hospital and the gift shop in Memorial Hospital. Along with her husband John, Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Sandra Shaffer and her husband Dennis of Thomasville and Sharon Gochenauer and her husband Gary of Wellsville; four grandchildren, Todd and Brett Shaffer and Matt and Sara Gochenauer; one sister, Audrey Crone; and one half sister, Marie Lehigh.
