GLEN ROCK-Evelyn L. (VanOrstrand) Randall, 87, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Shrewsbury. She was the loving wife of the late Donald G. Randall. Funeral services are private at the request of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Randall was born July 12, 1923 in Long Island, NY, a daughter of the late Pierson and Marguerite (McCarthy) VanOrstrand. She was a graduate of Patchogue Medford High School, NY. Mrs. Randall was a former owner and operator of Don Randall Music Company, where she worked for many years alongside her husband until his passing, and continued to operate the family business until her retirement in 2001. She was a member of Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster. Mrs. Randall shared a passion for music and ballroom dancing with her husband. She enjoyed days spent with her family sailing their houseboat on the Chesapeake Bay, and stopping off at marinas to fish and catch crabs. She was a member of Millersville Womens Club, and a local Pinochle Club. In her spare time, she would often volunteer her services with the Red Cross as a friendly visitor, and assist those in need with daily activities. She also loved animals and helped with animal rescues. Mrs. Randall is survived by a son, Thomas E. Randall and wife, Valya of Brussels, Belgium; a daughter, Elaine L. Rust and husband, Timothy G. of Glen Rock; five grandchildren, Karen, Katherine, Hilary, Valerie, and Vlada; five great grandchildren; a sister in law, Thelma VanOrstrand; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald G. Randall, II; and a brother, Pierson VanOrstrand. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a kind and caring gesture is made to someone in need, in memory of Mrs. Randall. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for making her last days peaceful and comfortable; and the staff of Country Meadows, York, Building #2 for the exceptional care of their mother over the years.
