Evelyn L. Starner

Evelyn L. (Rife) Starner, 78, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2007, at York Hospital. She was the wife of Willard N. Starner with whom she observed their 52nd wedding anniversary on December 20, 2006. Graveside funeral services and burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Mt. Rose Cemetery with her pastor, the Rev. Larry A. Schaefer, and her former pastor, the Rev. Edward J. Devan, officiating. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Starner was born August 14, 1928, in Roanoke, VA. She was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Mary Virginia (Johnson) Rife. She was a 1945 graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke and was a member of First St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in York. She was a loving homemaker. In addition to her husband, she leaves three sons, W. Norris Starner, Jr. of York, Mark Lee Starner of Parkville, MD, Clay David Starner of La Plate, MD; three grandchildren; two brothers, Charles W. Rife of Roanoke, David M. Rife of Salem, VA; a sister, Ruby Stevens of Roanoke; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Goyer.
