Evelyn L. (Smith) Grove

YORK - Evelyn Louise (Smith) Grove, 88, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, at WellSpan York Hospital. She was happily married for 23 years to Dean Eugene Grove, Sr., who died in 1978.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM on Friday, November 10 at Winterstown United Brethren Cemetery on Rippling Run Road, Winterstown, with Pastor Nathan Taylor of Red Lion Bible Church officiating. Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Born on December 28, 1934, in Felton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Pauline Marie Smith Hanes and Wilbur Smith. She was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Smith, and three sisters, Charmaine Michael, Donnie Warner, and Wendy Drawbaugh. She is survived by seven sisters, Jeanette Potter, Loretta Knaub, Diane Warner, Maxine Doering, Deb Knaub, Chris Garvey, and Vick Bahn.

Evelyn was dearly loved by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and nothing made her happier than to be surrounded by them. They include Wanda Witman (Chuck), Dean Grove, Jr. (Ruth), Duane Grove, and Lillian Sheetz (Dennis), along with grandchildren, John Grove, Crystal Vanleeuwen, Desiree Sheetz, Mandy Rehmeyer, Kenneth Sheetz, Ashley Witman, Charlyann Witman, Amber Witman, and Tara Witman, and eighteen great-grandchildren. She is remembered by all of them for her generosity and willingness to help others.

She spent much of her life as a homemaker. She loved baking and was well known for her whoopie pies. She later worked for the Dallastown School District, retiring in 2003. She attended Red Lion Bible Church.
