Evelyn Justina (Stine) Ziegler, of Huntsville, Alabama, formerly of Red Lion, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the age of 96. Born April 30, 1922, in Annville, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, she is the daughter of the late Rev. Cawley H. and Emma (Witmeyer) Stine and stepmother Ruth (Sellers) Stine. She was married to the late George Clinton Ziegler on July 17, 1943. They were married for 62 years. She retired in 1984 as an Elementary School Teacher after 19 years with the Red Lion Area School District. She was a 1939 graduate of West Philadelphia High School and attended Lebanon Valley College from 1939 to 1941. Later, in 1959, she completed her education graduating from the Virginia Commonwealth University, formerly the Richmond Professional Institute. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Red Lion where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and served as the Superintendent of the Children's Department. She was a former Director of Vacation Bible School; was a former President of the United Methodist Women; and served on her church's Mission Committee. She was a Volunteer in Mission through the United Methodist Church serving at various work camps throughout the country including Alaska, New Mexico, Kentucky, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Pennsylvania. Since she has been in Huntsville, she has attended West Huntsville Baptist Church. Through the York Intermediate Unit, she taught English to non-English speaking refugees. She was a volunteer meal delivery person for Mobile Foods as well as volunteering at Red Lion Area Community Services; Habitat for Humanity; and the Quincy Auxiliary of Central Pennsylvania at both local and Conference work camps. She served as a Girl Scout Leader for 17 years and was also a member of the York Chorus. Mrs. Ziegler is the mother of one son, David E. Ziegler, husband of Susan, of Huntsville, Alabama; three daughters, L. Diane Shultz, wife of James, of Williamsburg, Pennsylvania, Nancy E. Eaton, wife of Donald, of York, Pennsylvania, and Carol L. Goldman, wife of Chris, of Lynchburg, Virginia. She also has 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three brothers, C. Richard Stine of Martinsburg, Virginia, John D. Stine (deceased), and Robert A. Stine (deceased); and a sister Jeanne DeLong of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Along with her husband, she also raised three foster sons, Seta Svy of Alberta Canada, Khiem Tran of Red Lion, Pennsylvania, and Vinh Tran of Fairfax, Virginia, and a foster daughter, Chen Burns of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion with the Reverend Ronald L. Doverspike officiating. A visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Red Lion Cemetery. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Reach, Inc., 15 First Ave., Red Lion, PA 17356 or Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion, PA 17356.
