YORK - Eveline [Thorpe] Williams, 91, died Friday, August 24, 2007 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Leroy C. Williams. A tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2100 Hollywood Drive, York with Bishop Brandon Bushey officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born December 15, 1915 in the town of Mansfield in Nottingham, England; a daughter of the late Sampson and Elizabeth [Trenam] Thorpe. She retired from York City Schools in 1981 where she worked in Edgar Fahs Smith cafeteria. Mrs. Williams was a member of White Rose Senior Center; a life member of Edgar Fahs Smith Parent Teacher Assoc.; and was a former member of Phi Sigma Club at the YWCA. She emigrated to the US with her American soldier husband, Leroy in 1946. While living in England, she served as a Home Guard during WWII. In this civilian capacity she was on alert for German air strikes, and would notify her neighbors to turn off all their lights and seek protective cover. Mrs. Williams is survived by three daughters, Ruthann and husband Larry Pritt of Red Lion, Susan E. and husband Dennis Amspacher of York, and Melony J. and husband Richard Graham of York; five grandchildren, Jason, Renee, Dana, Erik, and Michelle; two great grandchildren, Audrey and Jeffrey; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael C. Williams; five sisters; and six brothers. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Assoc., 140 Roosevelt Ave., Suite 208, York, PA 17401.
