RED LION – Evans N. Fishel, 82, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Donna M. (Hivner) Fishel who passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019. She and Evans were married on October 5, 1963 and spent 56 years, two months and nine days together. A public Memorial Tribute Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Red Lion BPO Elks Lodge, 323 West Broadway, Red Lion with a social gathering and refreshments immediately following the service. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born January 14, 1939 in Red Lion, a son of the late H. Norman and Grace M. Fishel; he was a 1957 graduate of Red Lion Area High School, attended York Junior College and was a 1962 graduate of Goldey-Beacom College. Evans retired on April 17, 2017 as President of H.N. Fishel & Associates, Inc. in Red Lion after 56 years in the insurance business. Mr. Fishel was very active in the Red Lion community having been a member of Red Lion Fire Dept.; Grace Lutheran Church & Sunday School; former Director at Red Lion Youth Center; Red Lion VNA, Board of Directors; Red Lion Ambulance Assoc., Charter Member and Board Member; Red Lion Lions Club, Past President, Lion of the Year, Melvin Jones Fellow and 30 plus years of Perfect Attendance; Red Lion Area Senior Site Committee, Board of Directors; Red Lion Historical Society; Kaltreider-Benfer Library, Past President & Board of Directors; Red Lion Area Republican Club; Red Lion Area School District Leo Club “Hall of Fame”; Red Lion Class of ’57, Reunion President; Red Lion Area Business Assoc.; the former Red Lion Country Club; the former Red Lion Jaycees as President, State Director and received numerous awards including the President’s Award and Outstanding Officer of the Year. Over the years Evans had served as Red Lion Mayor and Councilperson; on the Centennial Commission; Chairman of the Redevelopment Commission; Municipal Parking Lot Committee; Civil Service Commission; and was awarded the Borough “Catherine Meyer Award” and Community Service Award. Evans was also active with Red Lion BPO Elks Lodge 1952 where he served in many capacities including Chairman and Exalted Ruler, was an Honorary Life Member and Elk of the Year; Red Lion Fraternity Home, Inc. as Past President, Vice President, Secretary and other committees; Past Exalted Rulers Assoc.; South Central District of PA Elks Assoc. as Past President; and PA Elks Assoc. where he served on multiple committees and received numerous awards. Mr. Fishel’s Masonic affiliations include Red Lion Lodge 649 F&AM; York Forest No. 30, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Harrisburg, Red Lion Scottish Rite, where he had served as President & Vice President; Zembo Temple of Harrisburg; and York County Shrine Club. Additionally, he had been a member of the PA Jaycees and was awarded JCI Senatorship, Outstanding Young Man of the Year, Distinguished Service Award and Statesman of the Year; York Co. Republican Executive Committee; Republican Club of York Co.; and The Historical Society of York Co. His professional associations included Professional Insurance Agents Assoc., Independent Insurance Agents Assoc., York Area Independent Insurance Agents Assoc.; York Co. Industrial Development Corp., Board of Directors; and Peoples Bank Advisory Board. Evans also enjoyed assisting with multiple charitable campaigns including the United Fund Drive; March of Dimes Drive; Heart Drive; Kaltreider Memorial Library Drive; and Kaltreider-Benfer Library Capital Campaign. Mr. Fishel is survived by two sons, David N. and wife Shelley J. Fishel of York and Douglas E. Fishel of Red Lion; a daughter, Dee A. and husband Carl E. Bowles of Red Lion; six grandchildren, Brittany L. Krouse and husband Allen, Lauren N. Jimenez and husband Justin, Grace E. Fishel, Paige G. Fishel, Riley K. Bowles and Parker E. Bowles; three great grandchildren, Bentley and Addison Krouse and Ariella Way; and a brother, Robert E. Fishel of Red Lion.
