HARVEY'S LAKE-Evan D. Kinney, 87, of Harvey’s Lake, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas. Born on October 13, 1924 in the Lee Park Section of Hanover Township, he was the son of the late Daniel and Margaret (Phillips) Kinney. He was a sergeant of the United States Army, and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he was a member of the 87th Infantry Division, Golden Acorn and was part of General Patton’s 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge. He earned a Bronze Star in Ardennes Forest in Germany. During the Korean War, he drove heavy equipment from Pusan to Taegu. He was very proud to have served his country. A member of the Steel Workers Union, he was employed by United States Steel Works, Fairless Hills, for 32 years. He also loved to dance. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Theresa P. Spernoga; sons Barry Kinney and Daniel Kinney. The funeral service will be held Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Carol E. Coleman will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Interment will be on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas with Military Honors by the United States Army. Everyone is asked to go directly to the cemetery.
