Eva B. (Byerly) Godfrey

Red Lion—Eva B. (Byerly) Godfrey, 100, died Friday, October 12, 2007 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Charles C. Godfrey. A life celebration service will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with her pastor, the Rev. David Tietje of St. John's United Church of Christ in Red Lion and Rev. Ronald Heagy officiating. Burial will be held in Red Lion cemetery. A viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral chapel. Mrs. Godfrey was born February 20, 1907 in Chanceford Township, a daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Heffner) Byerly. She was a graduate of Red Lion High School and York Junior College. As well as being a homemaker, Eva along with her husband Charles, owned and operated Godfrey's Meat Market for many years. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, who truly loved her Lord and cherished the time spent with her family, especially family trips to Rehoboth Beach. She gave her family so many memories to cherish. Mrs. Godfrey is survived by one daughter, Sue J. Smith of Red Lion, three sons, Dr. Eugene Godfrey of Dover, DE, Phil R. Godfrey of New Oxford and Ned R. Godfrey of York, five grandchildren, Ralph and Donnie Godfrey, Darby Groh, Jeff Godfrey and Danny Smith II, eight great-grandchildren, Keesha and Shanlee Stough, Megan, Ryan, Drew and Shane Godfrey and Mitchell and Meggie Groh and nieces and nephews. One granddaughter, Mary Reynolds and 3 brothers and 4 sisters preceded in her in death. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 161 N. Main St., Red Lion, Pa 17356.
