Red Lion—Eugene W. McCarthy, 84, died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Hazel I. (Wrights) McCarthy. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 AM, Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with his pastor, the Rev. Ronald L. Doverspike. A viewing will be held from 9-11AM, Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Born January 6, 1932 in York, he was a son of the late Charles L. and Nellie B. (Walton) McCarthy. He was employed with Metropolitan Edison for 36 years as Plant Manager, until his retirement in 1991. A member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Red Lion, the Red Lion Senior Center and Dallastown/Red Lion Optimist Club, he was also an avid football (Steelers) and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed traveling, especially cruises and was very generous donating to many charities. Most of all he loved his family. Mr. McCarthy is survived by two sons, Gregory E. McCarthy and wife, Trudy and William J. Kell; six daughters , Penny A. Berkheimer and husband, Russell, Sharon S. Ginter and husband, Earl “Skip”, Deborah L. Heist and husband, Brady, Diane E. Myers and husband, Mark, Kim E. Sadler and husband, Larry and Kathy E. Gordon; eight grandchildren, Teresa, Russell A., Greg, Brandon, Robert, Jolene, Nicole and Kip; six great grandchildren, Sofia, Alex, Nathan, Devon, Savannah and Pharynn; one brother, Leroy E. McCarthy and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Billie Jo; two brothers, James and Robert and three sisters, Martha, Helen and Mae. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Feed the Children, 333 N. Meridian, Oklahoma City, OK 73107 or Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
