Eugene W. Brown

York—Eugene W. Brown Sr., 83, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the companion of Mrs. H. Lee Mergenthaler. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2007 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with the Rev. Arthur Grahe of St. Peter's (Lischey's ) United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, and from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, at the funeral chapel. Mr. Brown was born August 12, 1923 in York, a son of the late Charles A. and Rosanna (Flory) Brown. He was employed with Borg-Warner Corporation as a Shipping Foreman for 33 years, until his retirement in 1976. A United States Army veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the York County Honor Guard, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary - Division 14, West York V.F.W, Shiloh American Legion, York County Drum and Bugle Corps and a life member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Eugene volunteered at the Benevolent Food Bank for several years and dedicated many years spreading joy as Santa Claus for under privileged children. In addition to his companion, Mr. Brown is also survived by two sons, Kenneth E. Brown Sr., and Eugene W. Brown Jr., both of Spring Grove, one daughter Peggy M. Innerst of Jefferson, five step-sons, George, Wayne, Mark and Gary Hoffman and Dave Mergenthaler, one step-daughter, Jeanne Hoffman, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Daisy Whorley of Manchester, Anna Adams of York, Patricia Smith of Manchester and Evelyn Markel of York and nieces and nephews.
