HARVEST, ALABAMA - Eugene Lamar Smeltzer, 65, went to be with the Lord on Friday. He was born in Red Lion, in 1948 and graduated from the Red Lion Area Senior High School. After high school, he began working for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation where he was employed for more than 30 years until his retirement in 2001. Gene had been a member of the Shenberger's Chapel United Methodist Church for many years before moving to Alabama in 2001. After moving to Alabama, he became a faithful member of Lighthouse Baptist Church where here served as church treasurer and deacon. He loved serving others, was always willing to help, and put others before himself. He is survived by his wife, Doris Smeltzer; His daughter, Michelle Webster; His grandsons, Brent Webster and Tommy Webster and by two great-grandchildren. Mr. Smeltzer was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond H. Smeltzer and Margaret Irene Emenheiser Smeltzer. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 13, 2014 from 5-7:00 PM at the Hazel Green Funeral Home, 13921 Hwy. 231 431 North, Hazel Green, AL. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM. A graveside burial service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Shenberger's Chapel Cemetery, New Bridgeville.
