Eugene C. Burnell

LOCK HAVEN - Eugene C. Burnell, 85, was called home on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Haven Rehab and Skilled Nursing, Lock Haven. He was born February 19, 1933 in Lock Haven a son of the late Carl E and Marie (Chapman) Burnell. Eugene was married on July 25, 1959 to the former Jane P. Potts. They celebrated 59 years of marriage together. His career spanned 25 years in the Army as a Military Police Officer. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Eugene was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a member and past master of the North Star Blue Lodge # 241, Farrah Grotto of Warren and the Zem Zem Shrine in Erie. Surviving are his loving wife; two sons; Gary E. (Bridgett) Burnell of Russell, PA and Terry G. (Donna) Burnell of Warrington, PA also two daughters; Melissa J. (Jeff) Fritts of Lock Haven and Debra J. (Glenn) Harlinger of Clarksville, TN. Eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters Vickey Warshaw and Susan Lamey both of State College. Eugene was preceded in death by two brothers Richard Burnell and Gary Burnell a sister Marie Eckley and a step-brother Jerry Lamey. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Swissdale United Methodist Church, 974 Croak Hollow Road, Lock Haven with Rev. Dave McElwee and Rev. Jerome Kennedy officiating. Friends and relatives will be received on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall. A masonic service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be at Swissdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Caldwell United Methodist Church or the Wounded Warrior Project through the funeral chapel.
