MILTON - Ethelda H. (Swanger) Clayton, 91, died Friday, January 10, 2014 at Buffalo Lutheran Village, Lewisburg. She was born on August 07, 1922 in Lewisburg and was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Ollie (Chappel) Swanger. Ethelda married the late George E. Clayton, Sr. on November 23, 1937 and they celebrated 55 years of marriage together until his death on May 10, 1993. She attended Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Watsontown and enjoyed many things including flowers, gardening, cross stitch, word search puzzles, watching TV Land, especially Bonanza and Gun Smoke and going to carnivals in her younger days. Most of all Ethelda loved spending time with her family. Ethelda worked for Montgomery Mills, Murphy’s and the Milton Shoe Factory. She retired from Ames in 1987. Ethelda is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law; George E. and Mildred Clayton, Jr. of New Columbia, Charles E. Clayton of New Columbia, Marvin D. and Linda E. Clayton of Loganton, Paul I. And Evelyn Clayton of New Columbia and Gene L. and Mary Clayton of New Columbia, six daughters and two sons-in-law; Sylvia J. West of Lancaster, June H. Eschbach of Milton, Virginia C. Bennett of New Columbia, Alice A. Snyder and her fiancé Mitchell Rump of Milton, Martha L. and Mark Oliveri of Mifflinburg and Cindy L. and Gerald Bennett of Milton, 37 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren, one brother Donald Swanger of Brockport, NY, two sisters and one brother-in-law; Laurabelle and Gene Lloyd of Lewisburg and Leola Dornsife of Mifflinburg and three sisters-in-law; Dorothy Delaney of Mifflinburg, Freda Swanger of Mifflinburg and Martha Lilley of New Columbia. In addition to her parents and husband, Ethelda was preceded in death by one granddaughter; Carly “Sue” Snyder, three great grandchildren; Justin and Colleen Clayton and Bradley Batorff and 11 siblings. A pubic viewing will be held 7:00-9:00p.m., January 13, 2014 at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton PA 17847 and then again from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the funeral home followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Ricky Phillips pastor of Mazeppa Union Church, Lewisburg and chaplain of Evangelical Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
