Ethel Smay

DOVER- Ethel (Roehle) Smay, 94, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 at Providence Place of Dover. She was the wife of the late Charles F. Smay, Jr. Services will be private, with a private interment of ashes in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is assisting the family with the arrangements. Mrs. Smay was born in Baltimore, MD on December 1, 1926, the daughter of the late Elmer and Ruth (Cover) Roehle. She was a homemaker and worked for Safeway Steel in Maryland in the past. Mrs. Smay was a 1945 graduate of Eastern High School in Baltimore and attended Baltimore Business School. She was a member of the Homemakers Club in Shiloh, Red Hat Society, and Duchess Club of York. She was a member of Yorkshire United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the 55+ club and her Sunday school class. She loved gardening and dancing with her husband. She was a member of Syncopation Dance Group, Ballroom Dance Club, and Cotillion, all of York. Mrs. Smay leaves two daughters, Beverly S. McKitterick and her husband John of Columbia, MD and Karen S. Fry of York; four grandchildren, Christopher and Amelia McKitterick and Daniel and Vika Fry; a brother-in-law, Eston O. Scott and a nephew, Richard Scott. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Roehle Smay and a sister, Carolyn Scott.
