Ethel M. Beck

Seven Valleys--Ethel Marie (Kessler) Beck, 95, passed on Saturday, February 25, 2023 to be with her Lord and Savior. She was the wife of the late Austin Paul Beck.

Born January 9, 1928 in Springfield Township, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Miller) Kessler.

Mrs. Beck and her husband farmed together for nearly 40 years, on a beautiful farm located on Larue Road in Seven Valleys. Dairy farming alone seven days a week, milking twice a day was only a portion of the hard work she did tirelessly. She gardened, harvested, canned and froze food to feed her family.

Ethel and Austin raised 5 children together, she is survived by 3 daughters, Jean M. Bricker, who was her personal angel for the last 30 years, Donna Kiser and husband Joe and Brenda Dise all of the Seven Valleys area. She was blessed to be “Nanny” to 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Paul Beck and her daughter, Linda Bailey.

In addition, she was a dedicated and loving homemaker who was an excellent cook, baker and made homemade ice cream. She was also a seamstress and taught her daughters to sew, mend clothing and in her later years did lots of quilting. She babysat her grandchildren for many years and enjoyed having her family around her throughout her entire life. She loved playing skippo, scrabble, and other games with her family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00AM, Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Zion (Shaffer’s) United Lutheran Church, 4535 Shaffer Rd, Seven Valleys. Officiating the service will be the Rev. David Hildebrand. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00AM, Saturday at the church. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements.

Because of Mr. and Mrs. Beck’s passion for farming and producing milk and other foods to help feed the world, the family is asking that in lieu of flowers please bring a non-perishable food item to the church to be donated to a local area food bank.
