Ethel E. (Baker) Mowery

YORK - Ethel E. Mowery, 88, passed away Friday, November 21, 2008 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Wilbur C. Mowery. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 28, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with her pastor, The Rev. Matthew R. Seeds officiating. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Chapel. Born November 20, 1920 in York a daughter of the late Philip J. and Hazel M. (Richwine) Baker, she was a 1939 graduate of West York High School. She had been a secretary for the Volunteer Office at York Hospital and prior to that had worked at the former Walker's Men's Clothing Store and the former Bell's Dept. Store in downtown York. Mrs. Mowery was an avid ballroom dancer having taught for Yvonne Ernst Dance Studio and enjoyed dancing with her husband at the Cotillion Club, Dutch Club, Manor Club, and Phoenix Club. She had also been a member of the Young Women's Club and Zion United Church of Christ. Following retirement she enjoyed golfing with her husband and friends at Briarwood Golf Club. Mrs. Mowery is survived by a daughter, Suzanne E. Gladfelter of Spring Grove; and nieces and nephews.
