YORK – Esther Irene “Sis” (Crouse) Kauffman, 87, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at her home. She was the wife of the late William J. “Bill” Kauffman to whom she was married for 65 years on July 29, 2009. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 11, 2013 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 947 North George Street, York with her pastor, The Rev. Beth A. Schlegel officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Friday at the Church. Sis wanted everyone to wear bright colors to celebrate her life. A luncheon will follow in the Church Social Hall. Private burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born December 4, 1925 in York, a daughter of the late William L. and Catherine L. (Gladfelter) Crouse, she was a 1943 graduate of North York High School. Mrs. Kauffman retired in 1982 from York Borg Warner, as a credit and collection supervisor after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church her whole life. Sis loved to decorate for all the holidays. She was an avid knitter, knitting many Norwegian sweaters, snowsuits for her twins, and baby blanket sets for her grandchildren. She belonged to two card clubs and loved playing 500 with her friends. But most of all, she loved going to her grandchildren’s sports and just being with her family. Mrs. Kauffman is survived by a daughter, Connie I. and husband Richard Emswiler of North York; two sons, James E. and wife Christine Kauffman of York and Ronald J. and wife Mary Anne Kauffman of York New Salem; eight grandchildren, Nichole, Noelle, Anthony, Michael, Paul, Monique, Danielle, and Janae; 16 great grandchildren, Tanner, Keith, Zachary, Brianna, Zaria, Marissa, Josh, Jared, Jackson, Marley Jo, Caitlin, Piper, Mila, Easton, Sam, and C.C.; and a sister, Barbara A. Markle of York. She was preceded in death by a brother, William L. Crouse, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, c/o Accessibility and Renewal Fund, 947 N.
