Esther (Elsbree) Everts

TROY - Esther Elsbree Everts, 90, of Troy, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, Dec. 22, 2012 with her family by her side, at the Bradford County Manor, where she has resided for the last few months. Esther was born on May 3, 1922 on Laurel Hill, a daughter of the late Jesse David Elsbree and Helen B. Nipperd Elsbree. She was a graduate of SRU class of 1939 and a graduate of the Elmira Business Institute in 1940. She married Hartley Everts on Aug. 21, 1943, in East Smithfield, PA. They raised 3 sons and were married for 65 years. Esther was employed at Eclipse in Elmira, Troy Engine and Machine Co. For 20 years she served as administrative secretary to six different administrators of the Troy Area School District. Esther was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy for 68 years. She held many offices within the church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon and was actively involved with the American Baptist Women Ministry. Esther enjoyed camping, playing cards, reading books, traveling anywhere anyone would take her, music, painting ceramics, fishing, puzzles, needle point and knitting. Her friends and family will always remember her charm, her wit, her humor, her thoughtfulness of others, continually giving to others and her contagious enthusiasm for life. She thought of others before herself. She was also a 54 year breast cancer survivor. She was an amazing, special person, a great role model to everyone and LOVED by all. Esther is survived by her 3 sons, Paul (Linda) Everts, Sr., Byron Everts, and Randy (Marianne) Everts, her grandchildren, Paul (Denise) Everts, Jr., Christine (Steve) Andrulonis, Tod (Natalie) Everts, Toby (Mia) Everts, her great grandchildren, Sgt. Brock (Jacquelyn) Everts, Alex Everts, Megan Everts, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (2008), her sister, Grace Walrath, her brother, George Elsbree. Family and Friends are welcome to call at the First Baptist Church of Troy on Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm. A memorial service will follow. Kindly consider a memorial contribution to the First Baptist Church of Troy, in lieu of flowers, at 579 Canton Street, Troy, PA 16947. The burial will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gerald W. Vickery Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA.
