Ernest Ray Smeltzer

DALLASTOWN - Ernest Ray Smeltzer, 89, died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Rest Haven in York. He was the husband of Sara E. (Mann) Smeltzer. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on August 24, 2012. Mr. Smeltzer was born in Craley on October 26, 1923, the son of the late Frank and Erma R. (Stein) Smeltzer. He retired as a supervisor for Fincor in York. Mr. Smeltzer was a member of Red Lion VFW, Dallastown American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, AARP; and a life member of the Purple Heart Association. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater of Operations. He received a Bronze Star, French Legion of Honor Metal, a Purple Heart with 2 Oak leaf Clusters and numerous other service metals for his dedication and bravery. Mr. Smeltzer leaves a son, Todd M. Smeltzer of York; two daughters, Donna R. Null of Spring Grove and Vicki L. Shelley of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Kacey, Karleah, Elijah, Bryanee, Jennifer, and Adam; five great granddaughters; and nieces and nephews. Mr. Smeltzer was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Smeltzer, Jr. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
