Eric N. Silar

RED LION- Eric N. Silar, 72, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of Helen M. (Folk) Silar to whom he was married 32 years. A Graveside service will be held at 1:45 PM on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with full military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born January 7, 1945 in Windsor, Eric was the son of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Essig) Silar. Mr. Silar served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for 20 years at York Hospital as a LPN and also patient transport until his retirement in 2003. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, jig-saw puzzles and reading. Eric was a former member of the Fire Police for the Red Lion Fire Department. He also bowled and golfed on the York Hospital leagues. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Helen, Mr. Silar is survived by two sons, Scott Silar of Red Lion and Joseph Silar II and his wife Teri of Red Lion; a daughter, Krista Polk and her husband Donnie of Hagerstown, MD; a step-daughter, Deborah Shaffer and her husband Charles of Yoe; five grandchildren, Alexis, Jonathan, Zachariah, Kaylynn, and Kiersten; three step-grandchildren, Chad, Richard and Rachael; two great grandchildren, Michael and David; three step-great grandchildren, Maya, Jacob and Lexi; ex-wife, Judy Brown of Red Lion; a nephew and two nieces. Along with his parents, Eric was preceded in death by a sister, Beth Wilt and a step-son, Ricky Mowrey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Red Lion Fire Company, 201 W.
