York—Elwood M. “Woody” Fake, 78, died Friday, May 2, 2014 at York Hospital. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 AM, Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York with his pastors, the Rev. James Driskell and Rev. Edward Devan officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-11 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born September 28, 1935 in Yoe, he was a son of the late Mason E. and Florence A. (Delle) Fake. A graduate of North York High School and York Junior College, he later earned a bachelors’ in education from Millersville and his masters’ degree from Temple University. An employee of the Northeastern School District, he taught at Conewago Elementary for 30 years until his retirement 1988. Woody had a life-long passion for baseball, he coached youth baseball for several years and from 1957-1996 he was an active member of the Central York County Baseball League, where he volunteered as a scorekeeper, statistician and league secretary and was inducted to their league Hall of Fame in 1996. He also assisted the York College baseball team with recruiting and stats and their basketball team as a scorekeeper. He served in the National Guard and was a member of First St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in York, Hawks Club, PSEA, NEA and a former usher at the Strand-Capital Performing Arts Center. Mr. Fake is survived by four sisters, Delores Landis of Dover, Romaine Frey of York, Helen Harris of Omaha, NE and Patricia Spagnola of York, nieces and nephews and extended family members, Kenneth and Stephanie Crouse, Lisa Thompson and husband, Steven and sons and Gina Krout and husband Brad. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Central York County Baseball League, 101 E. Springettsbury Ave., York Pa 17401.
