Elwood L. "Pete" Schaefer

DOVER – Elwood L. “Pete” Schaefer, 87, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. He was the loving husband of Pauline Y. (Ort) Schaefer to whom he was married for 62 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2121 Roosevelt Ave., York, PA 17408 at 10:00 AM. Prior to the service, there will be a viewing from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Born August 24, 1934 in York, Mr. Schaefer was a son of the late Charles E. and Bertha (Wasser) Schaefer. Mr. Schaefer proudly served our country in the Air Force several years. He spent two years stationed in Germany, and the remainder was spent in Virginia at Fort Eustis. After returning home, Mr. Schaefer worked for Osram Sylvania as a machinist for 35 years before his retirement. Mr. Schaefer was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and was very active there for many years. Mr. Schaefer was also a member of the Viking Club. In his free time, Mr. Schaefer enjoyed fishing, and bowling. In addition to his wife, Mr. Schaefer leaves behind a son, Todd L. Schaefer; a daughter Beth Smith (Michael); three grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan, and Courtney; three step grandchildren, Suzanne, Becky, and Steven; two great grandchildren, Evan, and Nash; a sister, Shirley Blymire; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Schaefer is preceded in death by two brothers, Rodger E. Schaefer, and Charles F. Schaefer; two sisters, Evelyn McKinley, and Jane Ware; and his daughter in law, Lesa Schaefer.
