Elsie Marie (Himes) Henry

FELTON - Elsie Marie (Himes) Henry, 96, entered into rest at 10:44 am on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Richard “Pete” Henry who entered into rest on September 13, 2001 and to whom she was happily married for 64 years. She was born in Hellam Township on April 29, 1915, daughter of the late Daniel E. and Lillie C. (Rinehart) Himes. She was employed by the Red Lion Area High School District in the cafeteria of the old junior high school on Charles Street until the Moore School in Red Lion was built where she became the head cook. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, doing jigsaw puzzles, working in her vegetable and flower gardens, and landscaping in her yard. She enjoyed cooking and loved when neighbors and friends stopped by to visit. You could not pay her a visit without having a piece of cake or a dessert and coffee before you left. Elsie enjoyed the simple things in life. She was always available to help anyone in need. Family and friends will dearly miss her. Being part of the Hershaull Park annual Sunday School Picnic was also a big part of her life. Elsie was the eldest member of Crossroads United Methodist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class since 1945 when moving from Hellam Township to a farm in Felton, which they later converted to a Dairy Farm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 6881 Church Road in Cross Roads, with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. Her pastor, The Reverend Michael G. Trimmer will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Machpelah Cemetery in Yorkanna at the convenience of the family. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion is in charge of the arrangements. She is survived by a daughter Nancy and her husband Ray E. Brown of Red Lion, with whom she has resided since November, 2009; a grandson, Douglas R. Brown and wife Cindy (Ferguson) Brown of East York; and a granddaughter, Shelley A. (Brown) Wilson and husband Tom of Bernville, PA; two great grandchildren, Zachary Douglas Brown and Justin Robert Brown, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, William, and Nelson; and two sisters, Daisy Maude, and Lucretia. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Cross Roads United Methodist Church “Elevator Fund”, 6881 Church Road, Felton, PA 17322. A Special “Thank You” to the many doctors, nurses and caregivers and anyone who may not have been mentioned.
